New Hope Vibe...
all the stuff you love...
Late summer along Main Street in New Hope conjures visions and scents that have stayed with me since the ‘60s.
The visions were sensual and languid.
Scents were magnified for me because I come from the seacoast where the air freshens twice a day.
Here, in this river valley, air sometimes stays still for days at a time.
The lot behind John and Peter’s has smelled of marijuana smoke and Patchouli since forever.
There are other places where the magic of the past lingers strongly enough to feel it.
A walk from the South end of Main Street, across Bridge Street to the end of the commercial zone, then back across the bridge to Lambertville, can take hours.
Open your eyes, stick your nose out, and enter the storefronts and side alleys.
Your senses will be engulfed with today’s New Hope Vibe.
It has been distilled from all the good vibes filling the air since the ‘60s.
Savor them as you wander around.
AUTHOR’S NOTE…
By now you’re wondering what is this ad selling?
Exciting new developments.
It’s essential that new folks don’t lose the funk.
There are malls worldwide that try to capture the essence of what once was.
It never really works.
New Hope still has enough of its original flavor to be unique.
Don’t homogenize it into puree of past, or the magic will dissolve instantly.
Then it will become nothing more than a vast suburban wasteland.
That’s for free.
Here comes the sales pitch.
